We in the Organization of women’s freedom in Iraq have witnessed all the support and compassion from members of the CPT since the beginning of war on Iraq and until these sad days. Peggy, Sheila and others were marching with us since our first demonstrations in front of the green zone. They were with us when we demonstrated against the kidnapping and trafficking of women. Although we are a secular women’s group, they visited us in our Baghdad office and expressed concern over our issues persistently. They offered support without expecting anything in return. They were best examples of selfless individuals who were in full support of our sufferings and pain. We are dismayed with the news of the detainment of CPT members by the criminal “resistance”. Just like most innocent Iraqis, they have become victims to one of the most heinous and criminal political groups, the so called “resistance” of political Islamists. We demand strongly that their kidnappers reconsider their position and begin to direct their aggression to their real enemies, and not to the friends of Iraqi people. We send our deep sympathy to the families of the detainees Harmeet, James, Norman and Tom. We wish them a reunion with their loved ones. We also hope their capturers may wake up from their filthy bigotry to have some decency and respect for these activists’ human lives. The war on Iraq has brought about devastation to us and our supporters in ways unimaginable to a civilized society. We are continuously being crushed between two poles of crime, bigotry and terrorism.
Long live our friends from the CPT
